Motorola Q Dial-Up Networking (DUN) for PC and Mac via Bluetooth

EDIT: DIAL-UP NETWORKING DOES NOT WORK WITH THE NEW FIRMWARE!!! This is a warning so that nobody wastes their time on going through with this tutorial just to find out in the end that it doesn't work. Sorry folks.

If you've always wanted to use your Verizon phone to tether to your laptop via Bluetooth but never could because the man kept holding you down, good news! The Motorola Q allows you use Bluetooth to tether to your PC or Mac! Remember to do this at your own risk (this might void your contract with Verizon)...all you need to do is follow these instructions. I have added pictures so that you can see what's going on. Enjoy!

NOTE: Don't have Bluetooth? Try the USB Dial-Up Networking tutorial found here (sorry PC users only)!

Dial-Up Networking via PC (Windows):

1. Install Microsoft ActiveSync.

2. Attach the Motorola Q to the Windows PC.

3. Allow the Windows machine to Sync to the Q and keep phone attached.

4. Download the .zip file containing the registry update in our downloads section here.

Unzip the file!

Download the .cab file for Resco Explorer from here:
Resco Explorer 2005 for Smartphone: Downloads

Download the .cab file for the Registry Add-in from here:
http://www.hellomotoq.com/forums/downloads/file116.html

If you want to download the Windows Executable (.EXE) to install from your Desktop PC you can download it in our Downloads section (Windows Executable includes the Registry Add-in).

5. With the Q still attached and sync still running open up "My Computer" then "Mobile Device" on the Windows machine.

6. Navigate to the "My Documents" folder on the Q (Mobile Device).

7. Drag and drop the two downloaded .cabs and the .reg file to the "My Documents" folder of the Q for a total of three files as seen below:

8. Disconnect the Q from the PC.

9. On the Q from the Today screen press "Start", select "File Manager" and then navigate to "My Documents."

10. Highlight and hit the center D-Pad button on the Resco Explorer installer .cab first and let it install. Don't worry about the message about display not looking right because it will still work for our purposes!

11. Repeat step for the Registry Add-In (Not .reg file).

12. Return to the Today screen.

13. Press "Start", select "Resco Explorer" and navigate to "My Documents."

14. Highlight the .reg file and hit the center D-Pad button.

15. Agree to installing the additions to the registry.

16. Exit out of Resco.

17. Remove the battery, wait 30 seconds, reinstall battery and turn device on.

18. Enter ##342587 and hit the TALK or SEND key a new dialog screen should come up.

19. Move the navigation key to the right to select "Enable," press OK then EXIT.

QUICK TIP: Sometimes the DUN setting doesn't stick after a power cycle. You should save ##342587 in your phone book as (Dial-Up Networking) - yes, with the parentheses so that it shows up at the top of your phonebook.

Setting up DUN on the Windows PC:

20. After pairing your Motorola Q with your PC create a dial-up connection via your new Bluetooth modem with the following information replacing (phone number) with your Verizon Wireless number and vzw as your password:
