It's a "mini" SD card. A SD card will not fit. Pretty simple really. Buy the card and insert it in the phone. That's it. when you download files or programs you will have the option to store them on the phone drive or the mini SD card. Most programs will run fine from the card but there are a few that you will find do better directly on the phone. As to where to buy one your options are limitless. Just type mini SD 2 gig in google and you will get pages. You can find them for as little as $15 on sale now if you search. Amazon seems to have a pretty good price right now on a sandisk. I've also used Buy.com a good bit for this kind of item. You can find them locally at Best Buy, Radio Shack, ect. You will probably get a better deal on the web. I went by a CompUSA that was closing and got two for the price of 1. You just have to do a little searching.

I have found that the best place to find awesome deals on external memory is at PQDVD.com. Look for the link on the right hand column about 3/4 of the way down that says "Special Offers...Memory Card Deals". I got a Kingston 2GB Mini with a Full size SD card sleeve for about $7 after a $9 rebate & a $10 instant "Google Checkout" discount. Not too shabby...huh? The shipping was prety fast too....it happened to be Buy.com for that one.

PQDVD is also a website that actually has software that compresses a dvd to fit on your external memory. You can adjust the size to whatever best fits your viewing needs. I think you can actually fit about 3 to 6 movies on a 2GB card, depending on compression level & output sound quality.

I usually check this site out every couple of days looking for another great "Hot Deal" as they call it.

I tried using a mini sd 2gig in my phone and it did not work. I read up a bit in the manual to find that it can only hold a 1gig card. Is anyone else having problems using the 2 gig or is my card just crappy?

I have a two gig card in mine and it seems to be working fine!

That is what I was going to post. The motorola q comes with about 50megs[don't quote me on this] and is not much, for say putting mp3s on. I would recommend the one Mtg1974 said.
If you want to bump it up to 4, then here is one that says it is moto q optimized, I haven't tried it though

It can be 4GB as long as it's not High Capacity.
