Will it work with the Motorola Q? It has a 2.5mm connector but it has only 2 black rings in the connector so I wasn't sure if they will function properly.

It will NOT work if it has 2 black rings. The Q needs 3 black rings; this equals 4 connectors- 2 for speakers, one for mic, one for ground.
If you try these, you will have to pull the jack out a mm or jiggle it to get stereo. You also may have issues with it not knowing you are in headset mode, and also inadvertantly activating the dialing function.
The Verizon store sells a wired adaptor for around $14, with a volume control, mic and answer button. It is 2.5mm on one end for the Q, and has a 3.5 mm socket on the the other end so you can use any headphones.
You can get an adaptor form verizon but in my experiance the function button on it is to easy to push and triggers the voice recognition. One other point is that if you are using you headphone jack to listen to music or other audio, when you recieve an alert ( ie text message ) it will activate the speakerphone and everyone within earshot will hear it. I recently purchased the Motorola HT820 bluetooth headphones and I suggest them if your using your q for a ton of audio. Thanks to the folks at my local Verizon store I was able to check out a variety of headphones and those were the best, they have a full array of buttons to operate media player and allow you to make and recieve calls, there rechargable, sound is fantastic, and there very comfortable. The only con I have found so far is there there is no LED and, you wouldnt be able to see it anyway.
