i would like to say ,
since there doesn't seem to be any entries about alltel, that they have great service,i like it that whenever new deals come up for new customers, their current customers can also take advantage of the deals, they usually ask me if i'd like them to check to see if i could save more money.
on one occaission when my kid went nuts and ran up a $400 bill they really worked with me over some months.
i have never paid roaming,i had a call dropped once in the over three years i have been with them and overall it's ben a great relationship.
I am new to this forum. I am browsing here because I am looking for an upgrade option to my Kyocera slider remix that locked me into Alltel for another two years, a little over 14 months ago.
I have been an Alltel customer (and its predecessor Cellular One, and its predecessor Bell Atlantic) for some 14 years. I have noticed that there are some Alltel employees on this board spreading good cheer about their jobs.
I grow increasingly tired of Alltel's refusal to let go of its profitable BREW apps-control platform. I have longed for many many months to play with the Google J2ME apps and other new stuff out there, but unless I'm paying Alltel a quarter-per-use, the chances are slim. There is yet to be an Alltel phone released with the functionality I want. This Q looks promising, but then I see an upgrade on the horizon already, and Alltel is just releasing the first one! (I'm looking for A2DP for my new Motorokr S9 headset and J2ME.)
I still remember the bulletin released by Cellular One when digital band was first released. They actually had the gall to tell us that they would not be increasing the rates for our analog plans even though we were receiving such an increase in quality. Imagine! For 1/1000 the cost, they "would not be raising our rate plans". Or do any of you remember when we had to pay a subscription fee, then a connection fee when the technology for auto-follow-when-roaming came out? Hell, I still have to pay $1.00 per minute when roaming out of my 4-state area. $0.40 roam, $0.60 LD.
Wake up, Alltel! Gone are the days when we will foolishly fork over $3.99 per month to play Sudoku via Brew, or pay $0.99 to download a ringtone.
And all the CSRs do is decline decline decline. "Unfortunately..." is the new "Nope, not gonna get it." (in my best George Bush, Sr. imitation)
Ok on the access apps there is an option for all games to pay 9.99 and you own it, you do not have to pay monthly unless you want too, as for the q it is the latest version of that phone model, we also have the ut starcom 6800 coming out soon watch for it
Alltel is the best. I stand by them. they have really grown into something better since the seven years i have been with them. They got many towers! they are the Roman empire of the service world!

So, I received a private message from one of the Alltel reps today from the post I made last April.
Since I began looking for a replacement phone, the earpiece on my wonderful Kyocera gave out and I was restricted to making speakerphone calls only. Thankfully I had paid for the Alltel insurance for those first 14 months and I would get a replacement, right? WRONG. The agreement between Alltel and the insurance to replace my phone was for a choice between two other "similar" phones. These phones had NOWHERE near the functionality of my Kyocera. AND I had to pay a $50 deductible, easily covering the cost of this rediculous phone.
After MANY MANY MANY back and forth calls about which phone I would accept, I found a local store with a Motorola e815 and paid my $50 deductible.
Yet another fiasco in my saga of experience with Alltel.
Well, as for the subject of this message, finally the tables are turning for us consumers. As we realize that the rest of the world's cell phone networks and handsets are years beyond us, apple releases the iphone. It's still highly restricted, but folks are starting to demand more flexibility in their network. Finally we'll be moving toward the DSL/ISP model for cell phone networks. No more nickel-and-dime BREW.
Software is a commodity. There are so many open source developers out there, that you're bound to find someone who has written a free version of whatever you're trying to find that Alltel wants to charge you $3.99 a month for.
My contract is up in the next month. After all these years I'm ready to dump you Alltel. Catch up with the market or die.
