Alright, I have the Alltel 500 min family smartphone plan. My girlfriend is also on my plan, although she has a normal cell. It's a razr i do believe. Anyway, the last two months our bill has gone through the roof with overage charges. I had a little time to sit down today and see what numbers said charges were coming from. Here's what I got:
DATA-1X/DO CL 000-000-0000
This is data transfer. Whether it be txt, picture, celltop etc...that's how it's listed.
We share the unlimited data transfer on the 500 plan. I pay the 5.99 a month for her to have "mobile web". Therefore I should be recieving no charge for any data service. correct? Additionally, these functions should not be taking away from my anytime minutes. correct?
They haven't in the prior YEARS i've been with Alltel.
As you may have guessed, yes, this is where my overage charges have come from!
Going to call Alltel in the morning, but in the meantime I wanted to check in with you guys and girls. Anyone have a similar experience? Has something changd with Alltel plans?
I'm with Verizon and not real sure how much different they operate than Alltel when it comes to charges.Typically,with vzw,when you have the $4.99 Mobile Web (MW) plan on a standard cell phone,using MW browser uses your airtime minutes.The fee you pay per month is simply an access charge that lets you use the feature.It bills the same way as a phone call.MW and browsers on your smartphone are totally different.Smartphones use data access and thats what the "unlimited" covers.

Now VZW has been known to bill you twice on a standard cell phone.You send a picture message and they charge you 1 minute of airtime AND the ammount of data used.Unfair? No sh*t! Thats the vzw way.Try disputing that in court...hah..

This may not even concern Alltel tho..Check all the fine and hidden print.If you can't find something,call a rep and ask.
Does Verizon make a distinction between txts, pics, mobile web, etc...on your billing statement?
That's what's really frustrating about this, no distinction on the bill. Some items are definitely mobile web (multi-minute charges), while the majority are billed as 1 min @ $0.40 per min.
I've had the smartphone plan for about nine months. I went back and looked at all my previous bills and the minutes of use are almost identical. There either has to be a billing mistake or a change in policy.
You would think that if there had been a change like that we would have heard about it from all over the internet. You should get with Alltel and see if it's just an error. If it is and you don't say anything about it they may continue to ding you.
according to alltel the DATA-1X/DO calls are either mobile web or axcess apps (alltels application store) related. yes, both items use up airtime. As i stated before though, that doesn't explain the single minute charges.
i've investigated a bit more and there are a lot of coinciding times in regards to txt and pic msgs being sent and these single minute charges. go figure.....i've sent an e-mail to alltel customer service pointing this out; nothing was accomplished on the phone with the rep!
is it possible that my girlfriends phone is malfunctioning and causing these charges? this is her 3rd refurb phone via insurance in as many months. they've all had serious problems. the last one liked to dial random numbers when you selected a contact! maybe this one is randomly connecting to mobile web? possible? could the phone not be making the distinction between types of calls and/or msging?
Those 1 minute charges could very well be pics messaging.When I had my V phone prior to the Q,My bill had dozens of 1 minute call records to 1-777-000-0000.That's DUN ..or in other words,vzw's number for data calls (internet,pix messages,GIN etc).Do you have any sort ofy messaging plan? Not just txt..but picture messages also.
definitely not roaming. neither of us has incurred a roaming charge in months.
as far as a txt/pic plan, that is supposed to be included in the unlimited data transfer. that was something that i was concerned about when i switched plans originally. prior to the smart choice 500 i paid 19.99 a month for "all axcess pass" wich was unlimited mobile web, txt, pic, IM, etc...the rep at the time swore up and down that i could drop that because BOTH phones would be covered under the smart choice service.
and i should mention that as far as i know alltel does not differntiate between txt and pics. they're just considered txt. THAT may have changed since the Q isn't capable of pic msgs though.
I'm just speculating. when the straightest answer i've recieved thus far is that DATA-1X/DO has to be mobile web or axcess apps (according to alltels rep) i'm not getting into my plan yet.
Call customer service and have them look at it for you. I have been having problems with my bill for the last 5 months and they keep putting me on the wrong plan, I have the smart choice 500 but there is a different coding they have to use for each phone. So they've been coding me wrong every month on one of my two line and I'm kind of getting tired of it, but I think its finally right.
Unlimited Data = Not So Unlimited?????
