LoL,

The Q9 is actually more of a memory hog, and runs slower from what I've seen and done with them...

Also, it doesn't have anymroe features then the first...

And from what I'm told WM6 is more buggy then WM5...

So if I were anyone... I'd hold off on this phone...

I just moved from a 700w and let me tell you that this dumbed down version of WM is not customizable at all. I cannot do anything with the 9m?! (ok, not 'anything' but several things I loved with the full WM).

* I can assign one button.
* I cannot dictate every single thing (every single thing(EVERY)) that is on my Today screen
* Ok, not to do with WM, but I need a MUTE button. I can set these profiles (which may be more usable once I am used to them but as of now are just a difficult way to turn the dang ringer off) to Vibrate, but Windows Media Player will still play. If I want the device and ringers to be silenced, would I not want the friggin player to be silent? Turning down the volume on WMP is not too difficult, but in meetings it is a pain if you do not think about it first. Watching videos during meetings is the only way I can stay awake.
* Missing hot-keys for applications. Yes, you can hold the home button and get a menu, but with the Treo I could press certain buttons to start VR, Task Manager, File Manager, launch the player...
* Last call is a beeeeeeeeyach. With the Treo I would hit the call button and get a MENU showing my last calls. Drilling down on that menu (all while still on the today screen) would present me with the other numbers tied to that contact. With this phone I have to switch screens, scroll left/right on the number to change it from Mobile to Home to whatever, click on it and then get moved to the dang contact and have to press again to call? Soooo much faster on a Treo.
* Closing applications. Someone mentioned this phone being sluggish? No apps close on their own?! Well, not so much on their own, but the only option you have after using stuff like Windows Media Player is to hit the back button or home button. Nothing in the menu to EXIT the application thus closing it and saving battery. I will get to this dern battery in a minute.
* Start Menu- Or lack thereof. What the F*** is a Windows OS without a Start menu? Not a Start page, a Start menu? I do not need latest applications on my Today screen making me scroll down to see appointments, crappy profiles and such. Put my last used applications on the Start menu as with ALL WINDOWS PRODUCTS! It is a winning combination. Dont change it!
* While on the subject of "what the F*** is a Windows OS without" - IE. Didnt they get sued back in the beginning due to putting this on everything whether you wanted it or not with no way to remove it? What the heck is this browser? I miss IE dearly. I appreciate the IE logo they gave me, but that just reminds me that I once had it.
* Things like Bluetooth. Why not consolidate everything into one heading? Why must I be able to do this with Bluetooth here, and this with Bluetooth there and then have to go here and then have to...
* Why will my Bluetooth on this phone not transfer items to and from my laptop without Active Sync? I use Active Sync through Exchange 2003 and do not need another process running on my laptop so I can get items off my phone? Hopefully I have just not figured this out yet.
* what the hell is Vcast and why is it on my corporate phone?
* slow speeds of the memory card. At least I think that is why my camera burst (saved to media instead of memory) is more like a b u r s t
* would love another shift button on the other side of the keyboard
* horrible battery life. horrible. Active Sync kills it. I cannot imagine those of you using this as a true media device! must last like.... that long.
* There are more gripes, just cannot think of them right now.

Please understand that I dooo not like these things about the 9m. BUT, I have been through several Treo's (600, 650, 700w (and about 5 of each of the models listed)) and loved both the Palm and WM interface. I absolutely hated them as phones and as reliable devices. I would change them out (thank god for insurance) within the same week due to issues from screen getting hazy, screen getting orange spots on it, hanging during firmware upgrades (700 was horrible about this) ringer would not work when calls were coming in, phone would reboot constantly, gosh could I go on and on.

I also have hated every Treo from a phone standpoint. Crappy reception, take for ever to dial out and get a connection, couldnt hear good, sounded like fish in a can, etc.

I do not think there is a happy medium...eh, I dont want a happy medium. I want this phone with full WM6 on it. That would make me happy, but not going to happen. I accept that you cannot pile full WM on a phone and have it work as well as this. I also used an older HTC for a while though and do not remember as many issues as the Treo. I know the keyboard on the HTC was horrible, but the full WM seemed to work better than on the Treo.

I do think this is the best smartphone on the market (is the 9h on the market yet?) and will remain such until 9/3 when the new HTC hits the market. I am not on AT&T, so screw it anyway.

I do like the scroll wheel, back button, size and feel, looks, screen, sound, camera flash, phone, no touch screen, reliability, Motorola history, etc.

My boss had the old Q and says this is much better though. He thinks they tood the best of the old (which is most of the phone!) and added great features/mods to it.

Maybe some of this stuff will be fixed with me learning the phone more. Have not had time to research. I also know some may be hackable, but I get sick and tired of having to re-hack crap after resets, firmware upgrades, etc.
