you can also copy the file PIM.VOL to your storage card, then after you reset the phone copy "pim.vol" to your "\" directory and do a hard reset.

There is a program called jeyo mobile companion. It will allow you to back up your contacts, sms, and call logs. It seems pretty efficient.
