Hi every one
I have a sprint Original Motorola Q
Windows Mobil 5.0
I have been trying different Windows Mobil apps to see what the q can do or not do.
I have tried 4 different media players to play Dvix files
Only One worked I got around 5 frames a second that's it.
Streaming Video (IE YouTube)
I get around 10 frames a second but the smart phone will lock up or the app will crash about 2 mins into the video and it has to buffer all the time.
With the Build in Picture Viewer I can only see the first page of a PDF then I get a out of memory message. (I have tried a few pdf Readers with no luck)
I have got a few games to work on it.
I have installed a few programs that work great.
Yahoo Go
Skyfire (can see streaming video just fine low frame rate however)
I very much like my smart phone, however I just don't thank it will so some of the things the newer phones do.
If any one has gotten the original q do do any of the things I have listed I would love to hear from you.
I think the CPU in the phone is just to slow, but for the age of the phone its not to bad at all
You are generally right, the phone is quite dated and streaming videos off the internet is not only depending on the processor/memory but also your reception and what kind of data connection speed you are getting from your carrier.
As far as DIVX files are concerned you should try this version of TCPMP, it has been recompiled and it should work alot smoother. I had problems with it on my HTC Touch and when I started using this version I could play DIVX files with no problems. It says it's for WM6 but try it and see what happens.

that's a very broad question that you are not going to get a precise answer on. It's a Windows Mobile 5 non-touchscreen smartphone, it will do what all phones of the likes are meant to do. It won't run WM6 or WM6 Apps, or touchscreen apps. The answer to your question is going to be trial and error. Understand what you have in your hand and what its attributes are. Just like with computers you won't go blindly trying MAC software on a PC. You have to see what programs match the computer. It's the same thing. Read, research, try.

I'm sorry you were very help full in your fist post I should have stated that. My question is very broad I should define it more.
What can the Original Motorola Q Running Windows Mobil 5.0 Do
From my testing I have came up with the following conclusions.
It can play Streaming Video to a very limited Degree around 10 Frames a second.
IT can only play a few video files formats. Video formats supported: H.263, MPEG-4, GSM-AMR, AAC, WMV. Video encoded with DivX codec is an MPEG-4 video yet it will not play
I have as of yet to get a pdf reader to work. I will try a few others
As far as DIVX is concerned again, if you get the recompiled TCPMP version from XDA-Developers forum you can play movies without skipping.
As far as the PDF reader, the free ones are not as reliable as the pay ones. Documents to go just released a new version of their software, I'll post the review in the software section. I use Foxit PDF reader on my PC and I know they have a version for smartphones.
