I would say the answer is no because they're not plain text.

the function is available with extreme text, but logic would assume that the other person would have to have extreme text and emoticons enabled or something....

Most people wouldn't have Extreme Text but I would imagine that the person receiving the text would see the smileys in text. It might be handy if you don't remember what characters to use to make different smileys.

Has anyone actually tried to go to their emotion icons site and try intalling it... just wondering. I would but i'd probably eff my stuff up lol.

extreme text will do it for you. I found a crack just by searching google for "birdsoft crack".....most phones can see your smiley....such as older flip phones and such...just type
