, hello everyone ! I'm from Indonesia, my device is Motorola Q (WM5 standar). If we press power button only, it called "RESET", similar with 'warm-booting' in PC. And if we select MASTER RESET from 'system tools folder', it called "SOFT-RESET". And now I know, that all motorola-technicians in Indonesia should press center navigation-button simultan (together) with power-button, about 10 second for hard problem! and it called "HARD-RESET". Hard-reset may effect erase your programs installed, but didn't original programs, (e.g. Internet Explorer, Solitaire...etc)
really?
i dunno "hard reset" before..well...that's new info..anyway, in another forum, i heard that master reset causes some problems, e.g. lose files etc..what's the difference with "hard reset"?
and in what condition should we use "master reset" and "hard reset"?
btw, i just bought my q, so i'm green on these stuff ;P
btw again, i'm from indonesia too...i guess our country is 'a bit late' in importing the q..
Hard Reset = Master Reset. They are the same thing. You perform this if your device is experiencing problems to the point that powering the device off and on again doesn't fix. This type of reset erases everything you have manually put on it such as contacts, photos, movies, etc. that you have not put on a storage card. If you have put these things on a storage card then you are fine. A master reset puts your phone to the state it was in when you first got the phone, or in the event that you flashed the phone, takes you to that point right after your flash.
Soft Reset - Powering off and back on the device. Does not erase contacts, photos, etc. as described above. Think of it in terms of pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL on your PC. and just restarting it versus wiping your hard drive (master reset).

I just remembered that a good registry editor will have an option for you to make a back up of your changes so that if you do reset you can restore the changes without having to do them all over again.
