A little over a month ago I wrote about the original Moto Q q9 getting its name changed to Moto Q 9h. In a news release from yesterday Motorola referred to this device as the Moto Q 9, and top of that, the GSM version of the original Moto Q is now called Moto Q 8. Confused yet?

While we’re already on the subject of the Moto Q 9, Gizmodo conducted a battery test between the original Moto Q with the new Moto Q 9. Supposedly the Moto Q 9 can last 2 days with average use and up to 4 days with barely any use. They explain that CDMA devices are resource hungry which drains battery really quick, but GSM devices use much less battery. Also the Moto Q 9 has a dimming feature for the display which better helps conserve battery as well. Lets just hope the new Moto Q 8 will have that kind of battery life, since it is a GSM based phone.
Not sure about the buttons but since the Q9 is a GSM-only phone then I am guessing the H stands for HSDPA, or High Speed Downlink Packet Access, GSM's version of EV-DO.
I have am on a user trial with the MOTO Q 9 HSPD UMTS version and I have to say it is one of the best phones I have ever used. Under normal use the battery life lasts about three days which I was very pleased with considering other moto phone batteries are poor. The key located in the upper left hand corner is the web access button. I thought that the number key pad would be difficult with one hand, but I have found the key placement and feel very comfortable and easy to use. I have used the phone for approximately three weeks and I have not found one bug. I love the bluetooth feature it is very intuitive to use. I really am impressed with the light sensors regulating the screen intensity and truning off the keypad backlight. I was very surprised at the voice and sound quality considering the very flat and and wide placement of the phone against your ear.
