There are several companies that are trying to make it happen, but this one finally has a break through. Many companies have been spending money so that we can spend more money through our cell and smartphoneon their stuff.
The latest company, called Point&Find, which is actually part of the worldwide cell phone leader, Nokia. Point&Find will allow us to use mobile phone's camera to find out about something we're interested in. It uses image processing, GPS positioning and artificial intelligence. Once we take a picture, then, automatically receive purchase options, movie times, or whatever the product you just pointed at.
Of course, this kind of technology is all over the place. Some companies have already been doing it, but what makes this significant is that Point&Find can be used in more ways. It can even be used as a translator when you take a picture in groups of words (from a menu or something) then you'll receive a translation in your native language.
All of this is done by using your phone and a remote server from Nokia. As the picture is decoded and processed, the server matches the picture to the brand or set of predefined tasks and services. After all of that, it goes back to the device in your hand waiting for more tasks from you.
Of course, Nokia is not the first at this, but it is one of the few that is actually out there and tested. This prototype will finally be able to reach in everyone's hand when they decided to buy a Nokia N95 smart phone.
What does that mean to us? It's coming to device soon... just you wait.
