Revolution: Microsoft gets it and licenses Adobe Flash Lite 3 for Windows Mobile

Revolution: Microsoft gets it and licenses Adobe Flash Lite 3 for Windows Mobile

After being dissapointed by Microsoft for a long time, now we must admit it: Microsoft finally gets what customers really need! When we learned it our jaws dropped to the ground and stay there out of astonishment: hell has frozen over and Microsoft itself (!!!) is licensing Adobe FlashLite 3 for inclusion in Windows Mobile:

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq: ADBE) today announced that Microsoft has licensed Adobe Flash Lite software, Adobe’s award-winning Flash Player runtime specifically designed for mobile devices, to enable web browsing of Flash Player compatible content within the Internet Explorer Mobile browser in future versions of Microsoft Windows Mobile phones. Microsoft has also licensed Adobe Reader LE software for viewing Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) documents including email attachments and web content. Both Adobe products will be made available to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide, who license Windows Mobile software.

The Flash Lite 3.x browser plug-in for Internet Explorer Mobile on Windows Mobile will provide users with access to rich and interactive web content created using Adobe Flash® technology. As the most popular and ubiquitous format on the Internet today, Adobe Flash powers many rich and engaging web sites, applications and animations. Adobe Reader LE will allow Windows Mobile users to easily and reliably view and navigate rich PDF content using innovative features developed to improve document readability on smaller screens.

“People want vibrant web experiences and access to entertainment and information anywhere, anytime,” said John O’Rourke, general manager, Mobile Communications Business at Microsoft Corp. “Bringing Flash Lite and Reader LE to the Windows Mobile experience will give consumers more of their favorite websites on the go.”

Conclusion: it is amazing and we never believed that it can happen but it looks like Microsoft starts to really get it when it comes to mobility! With FlashLite 3 (newest version!) licensed for Windows Mobile, users will be able not just to watch Internet videos but also able to use several other multimedia web applications...

Gee what a concept... give the people what they want.. and watch how profitable it will be for the company. Seriously though, I'm glad to hear this.

If I read the article right though it doesn't sound like it's going to be for any of us. I read it to say it's for future versions of Windows Mobile. I sure hope I'm wrong.

Well, I hope they plan on releasing a version that can be downloaded. It would just help sales of Windows Mobile devices if you give it the ability to view flash video, but I see what you mean they would want people to then buy new devices instead of upgrading the old. Thank god for hackers.. oops did I say that out loud?
