If you work out in the field and you need a tougher solution for your Q, skimpy leather cases won’t cut it in the real world, the Armor Case from BoxWave is for you. This new tougher solution for your Motorola Q is what you need to get if you are prone to dropping your Q or throwing it in a box of tools (although we highly recommend that you not do either!).
I received BoxWave’s Armor Case in two colors: Black and Metallic Silver. The anodized aluminum cases also came with an optional belt clip. The belt clip is a standard one with a screw on clip that allows you to put it on when you want to use it and take it off when you don’t. Personally for me, I like it without but for the purpose of this review I’ll test it out as well.
The Armor Case construction is very durable and light because of its aluminum shell. The insides are lined with foamy like padding to protect your Motorola Q from scratching the inside of the case. There are openings for all of the Q’s features, the camera, the two sides (USB ports, buttons, miniSD and IrDA port), the headset jack, the keyboard and microphone, and the speakers in the back. There is also an opening at the bottom to allow you to slide the Q out easily with just your thumb.
Installing the Armor Case is easy you just have to place it above the two tabs located towards the bottom and slide down. I noticed that because the Armor Case is a tight custom fit the thumb-dial moves when you slide it down. So just make sure you aren’t doing anything important on your Q when you do this. J. After you slide it in just shut the front of the case like a door make sure that it is snugly in (you’ll feel the “door” click). Once in, you might not want to ever take it out—ever (well maybe if you have a desktop charger).
Surprisingly the Armor Case doesn’t feel bulky on the Q—making calls and using the keyboard works just fine. I do however feel a bit cramped when using the far right and left buttons (i.e. Q, A, P), but I think that is something I can get used to. One caveat to note is that the back button on the side is somewhat blocked with the hinge of the case. You can still use the back button, but you just have to maneuver your thumb around the hinge to get to it.
The foamy padding helps protect the Q from shocks and the screen opening is covered by a plastic cover. Nothing is blocked on the screen’s opening which is a good thing.
Because the Motorola Q is so thin and light it doesn’t weigh down my belt when used with the clip. In fact I could actually see myself use something like this down the line…but it would have to be way down the line. J
I would recommend the Armor Case to anyone who needs a hard case, or metal case to protect their precious Motorola Q around harsh environments.
Rating: 4.5/5 Pros: Tough yet light, includes all required openings, screen is covered by plastic, easy to install, removable swivel belt clip, not bulky. Cons: Hinge somewhat blocks back button.
You can purchase the Armor Case for $28.00 USD as well as a full line of other BoxWave addons for the Motorola Q here!
I reviewed this case because it is only 1 of 5 cases that will hold the Q with the extended battery. Look for info when you order for Extended battery if you have it.

What are the other 4 cases that hold the extended battery? Links?
