Despite WM 7 Motorola not planning on WM smartphones in 2010
Motorola and Windows Mobile has had a stormy on again, off again relationship in the last 12 months, but until now we had all believed Windows Mobile 7, like a baby had just to prevent a divorce, would fix everything.
Unfortunately it appears that was overly optimistic. CNET Asia spoke to Spiros Nikolakopoulos, vice president and general manager for Asia Pacific and International Distribution for Motorola’s Mobile Devices business, to find out more about the company’s plans.
When asked about the smartphones Motorola intended to release in 2010, Spiros said:
“There will be between 20 and 30 smartphones globally and, at this moment, all of them will run Android. Naturally, not all will be available everywhere as it depends on the company’s partnership with the various telco operators in each country. For non-smartphone models, they will run either Brew or the Motorola’s own operating system.”
With Windows Mobile 7 handsets strongly expected to arrive this year, it appears clear Motorola will not be a launch partner, and after having placed all bets on Android, may never make a Windows Mobile handset again.
Of course the company is only aiming for 5% of the global handset market, and clearly see a role of complete irrelevance for itself soon.
Good luck Motorola.

Well, I hope they change their minds once the OS actually appears. There's still time for this news to change.

Moto to deliver up to 30 Android handsets this year
We're not being too unkind when we say that Motorola were in a pretty bad way before they launched their new Android phones. The Dext / Cliq was a good start and the Droid / Milestone is already proving to be a very popular handset in the USA. More are to come (like the Backflip) and, while we still cling on to our old MPx200 Motorola are planning to introduce "up to 30 Android handsets" this year.
That's a lot sure, but they won't be available everywhere all at the same time y'know. Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha isn't looking at market share at present but it sounds like he's pretty committed to making Motorola a global force in the mobile world once again.

its probably a decoy. or hopefully wm7 will swarm in like a bat out of hell and motorola will realize what a bad decision they have made and switch to wm..
I Believe Windows Mobile 7 is the last chance Microsoft has at maintaining their role in the mobile phone operating system business. It may already be too late. It will take something drastic for them continue as a major player.(an open source windows or something big)
When it comes to speed.... Android wins hands down.
Also look at the development of android software to windows software, recently.
I hope Microsoft has not become so wrapped up in them selves that they can hear the consumers any more. MICROSOFT WAKE UP & SMELL THE BACON (it seems to be your own pork butt that is being cooked)

that is my two cents
i doubt microsoft will make an open source windows mobile. they keep comin out with useless 6.5.X updates that nobody wants. people want wm7 already! but they just keep dickin us along(sorry for the language). thats why i want to give up on wm and go with android or apple or even webos. anything is better than wm right now. and possibly forever.

I've been reading some blogs on WM7 and its too early to say for sure but WM7 is looking like it will require yet a brand new device with at least a 800+Mhz processor, and tons of memory. No speculation as to what will happen to non-touchscreen phones. If this is truly the case then this OS that's supposedly built from the ground up better deliver or it's not going to be worth spending money to get a new device.
Windows Mobile 6.5.x will be around for quite some time. I'm just waiting for XDA to release a SPL unlocker for the imagio then I'm flashing mine. When it's time for a new device I'll probably switch to Android. I figure a year from now they will have come along alot further than where they are now and WM7 will *maybe* just be picking up speed.

At the Mobile World Congress event on February 15th, 2010, Windows Phone 7 will be unveilved, although at this time plans are only to unveil the user interface of the new platform . Specific indepth functionality of the device will most likely not be shown.
-The User Interface is based upon codename “METRO”. It will be very similar to the Zune HD User Interface with a complete revamp of the “Start” screen. The UI is “Very Clean”, “Soulful” and “Alive”
-Unfortunately there will be no Flash support at the get go as there was not enough time to implement these features.
-Windows Phone 7 will only support application installation through service based delivery. (i.e Marketplace). Application installation via storage card will not be possible. - No Multi-Task support. Applications will “Pause” when in the background; however will support notifications via push notifications.
-Marketplace will now support “try before you buy” as well as an API -No NETCF backwards compatibility. This means the original rumor of no backward compatibility for applications holds to be true. That being said, there are high hopes of porting the NetCF to the newer platform easily.
-Microsoft is confident that devices will be ready by September 2010
-Full Zune Integration -Windows Mobile Device Center will no longer be used. Zune software to take over syncing via PC. -OEM Interfaces will not be allowed to run on the device. Say goodbye to Sense UI / SPB Mobile Shell / Point UI / Infinity, etc, etc
-Full XBOX Gaming Integration (Gamer tag, achievements, friends, avatars, merchandising, etc)
-Full support for social networking
