Motorola Q11 turns up in Brazil ahead of launch

Motorola Q11 turns up in Brazil ahead of launch

We've already had a pretty clear indication that Motorola's Q11 was nearing a release in Brazil and, according to ZumoBlog, everything is now set to finally get official tomorrow. That, however, hasn't stopped the site from getting its hands on the phone today, and it's thankfully snapped a few pics of it to give folks a peek at what's in store. Of course, the pics of the Q9 lookalike don't exactly tell the whole story, as the big news is added WiFi and GPS, and, unfortunately, a lack of 3G. Still, if that's a trade-off you can get behind, you can keep watch on the site for a promised video hands-on, and set aside the 899 Brazilian reais (or just over $400) it'll cost you to get an unlocked version of the phone.

Here is another follow up article along with a video of some guys in Brazil speaking in portugese about the phone.

Motorola Q11: Not As Bad As It Sounds
Motorola should really be admired for keeping soldiering on with the Q series, despite lackluster public acceptance. The latest incarnation of the form factor, the Motolola Q11, has many of the same features of the other Q devices - a great keyboard, nice screen and thin form factor. It adds some consumer-friendly features, like a 3 megapixel camera, 3.5,, headphone jack and GPS with turn-by-turn software, and drops 3G connectivity which should improve battery life. WIFI is thankfully still present. The memory is expandable via microSD card and a 1GB card will be bundles. The smartphone features Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, and the video below (Spanish) shows it includes the often omitted Windows Live Messenger The device appears to be destined for release in Brazil first, apparently because it will be manufactured there.

Is it me, or does this phone look bigger?

Some specs

Motorola Q11 gets official

Motorla has officially launched the Q11 with the specs that we expected:
  • Talk and Standby Time: 450 minutes / 195 hours
  • Bands/Modes: Quad-band GPRS/EDGE Class 10
  • Camera: 3MP Fixed Focus, LED Flash, 8x Zoom
  • Memory: 128MB Flash, 64 MB RAM, optional microSD card up to 32GB
  • Weight: 115g
  • Dimensions: 117x64x11.7 mm
  • Battery: 1170 mAH
  • MicroUSB/USB 1.1, Bluetooth Class 1 v2.1
  • Display: 2.4“ 320 x 240 TFT 262K
  • GPS and aGPS
  • Wifi: 802.11b/g4
  • Chipset: LTE + Intel Bulverde, Freescale ARM 7 LTE
  • Windows Mobile 6.1
One new bit that's pretty interesting to see: ”WAP 2.2 / HTML / Pocket IE 6“ for the browser, which may mean the Q11 will be the first devices released with the new IE6 browser for Windows Mobile pre-installed.
It will hit in December, though pricing and availability are unknown. It's completely unclear whether or not AT&T will carry this (our hunch is that it's only 25% likely), but it does seem be a lock for Brazil.
