Make sure your firewall allows the connection. You can also disable or allow all traffic. Mine was preventing me. I'm not sure how to tell my firewall to allow, so I have been selecting "allow all traffic" while synced. Just remember to turn it back on after sync is complete.
I went through the trouble shooting on the windows website and added activesync to my firewall and its tellin me to check the connection settings on my phone as of now my connection settings are
(GPRS-media net=connect to [internet]

secondaryDNS:0.0.0.0

Yes, these are the same setting on my phone. I know you said you added activesync to your Firewall, but just try turning it off and connecting. I added it to my Comando Firewall and it still would not connect...until I manually selected "allow all traffic" and it connected instantly. So in my case I did not apparently add it to my firewall settings properly. I am going to have to play with it some more, because turning off my firewall every time I want to sync is not cool.
i just tried turning off my firewall and still nothing its still saying that
[cannot connect with current connection settings. To check your connection settings, select start, then settings, then connections.

and its still showing the same code as before[cannot connect with current connection settings. To check your connection settings, select start, then settings, then connections.
