number keypad not allowing to delete voice messages when prompted

HI all,
for some reason my motoq is no longer accepting the number key-pad dialing when checking my telstra voice message bank. example: press "5" to delete, "1" to replay etc. it is treating the dialing as a new call to be made??
help-
