Homescreen settings/wallpaper resets when .cab files are installed

The last 3 .cab files I installed,the background image on the homescreen resets itself to -default.The first 2 of these 3 cab files,the homescreen reset to default,along with the color scheme.Even stranger,the first of these 3 installs,all of the above but the homescreen background turned all white.Very similar to when your desktop image in Windows 98 turned all white because of some program crashing.None of these .cab files are in any way related.I just want to know why the Homescreen settings are getting messed up during some .cab file installations.
