To get the screen so it wont time out on AC it seems you have to set both Backlight time out on AC to never and Display timeout to never. This then makes it where the display doesn't shut off automatically on battery. This drives me nuts. I actually exchanged a Q thinking mine was defective but the new one does the same thing. Verizon tech support didn't seem to be aware that this is standard behavior. My power management display settings also seem to change themselves even though I'm not changing profiles. I even tested this on both phones after doing a master reset. Anyone with a workaround?
The backlight timeout can be adjusted separately for when the phone is on battery or AC, but the display timeout setting is universal. I don't know of a workaround, but even though the LCD is on, if the backlight is off you are using very little battery power.
I find it odd that you would want to have the display on all the time on AC. As long as you are hitting buttons the display will not timeout. If you are watching vids or navigating with GPS then the app you are using should have a setting to prevent the display from timing out.
It is mostly for in the car while listening to podcasts and wanting to glance down while at a stoplight and check where I am within a program. I don't want to have to fumble for a button to wake up the screen. Thanks Syndil.
Ah I see. I guess since the podcast is audio only, the media player times out the display. I see no setting to change this either. You might try the Core or TCPMP media players to see if they can be made to behave differently. I don't know myself as I rarely listen to media on my Q, just throwing out suggestions.
I use PocketPlayer. Highly recomended. The problem with setting it not to time out is that a lot of the time its in my pocket and I don't want the display. Not a huge deal. It just seems so strange the way the display power management is handled. Do you know if it is changed in the 3rd firmware update?
