My moto Q device stopped booting completely and now stops at the bule Windows Mobile screen and I am not able to see the Windows homepage.
I am unable to switch it off also and I have to remove & re-insert the battery to make it boot again, and again it stops at the same blue screen of windows mobile.
Is there any way we can make it work? The device is very critical for me. Any way I can 're-flash' it? Or something like that... Pls advice. It is highly urgent for me.
Hi!!
I would like to tell you that...
the same happen to me the other day, i was listening some music when my phone just crash and when it was booting up it stop on the windows mobile screen but what i did was going to verizon store and they told me that my phone was dead, but you can try a master reset by keeping the main button, the one in the middle while the phone is booting up, if that do not work. well try going to the verizon store, they might give you a new phone with the new firmware which works really great!!
No it did not work but I sent an E-mail to motorola about you problem:
Hi, for me it did not work!! but I went to verizon and they give another phone. also I sent an E-mail to motorola about you problem and i told motorola that there is a couple of people have emailed me because they can't get into the Start menu on their phone to do the hard reset. I spoke to Motorola technical support, and got an email from someone who has been working with pre-production Qs for 6 months, who both told me there is currently no other way to do a reset on the device, other than what I have posted below. But it's definitely a "feature" that I hope will be incorporated into any future versions of the phone.
If you are having problems with your Q already (since they were just released a few weeks ago), don't be afraid to exchange it for a new one.
The Motorola Q tech support line that I called was 1-800-657-7576.
I found this on the internet from another person who says that he was able to the master reset.
"Just thought I'd add to this thread.
I got the dreaded no-boot-Verizon-logo-screen issue today.
Tried leaving it without a battery for 20 mins and then booting; tried booting using another battery; tried connecting it to a power source and booting.. nothing resolved the issue, so I called VZW for support.
Of course, there was nothing else left to try, other than the dreaded master reset.
Fortunately, I had performed the firmware upgrade, and the master reset was just a matter of holding the silver "action" button in the center of the d-pad while powering the phone on, until the Master Reset screen came up.
The master reset resolved the non-booting issue, and I was able to restore most of my data/applications/settings from a month-old Sprite backup.
After the customer service rep verified that I was running the proper firmware, he mentioned that pre-firmware-update phones experiencing this issue needed to be exchanged, but also that that the "hanging at Verizon logo" issue was supposed to have been fixed by the firmware update..
Well.. apparently it wasn't.
As far as a possible "cause" is concerned.. the only recent change to the phone was that I installed PDANet, but I can't necessarily blame PDANet for the issue. Once I get the phone setup the way I like it, I'll back it up, and then try installing PDANet again.
Anyway, I figured I'd share my experience here instead of starting a new thread."
I also have the problem where I cannot get past the blue Windows Mobile screen.
I called Sprint and they said that the phone is dead and that they would send me a new phone.
I don't want a new Q!
I want MY Q with all of my cool apps, favorites, etc.
After all the hundreds of hours that I spent with the phone and all of the cool things that I installed are gone I won't even think about starting from scratch again for fear that this could happen again.
I never got a chance to do a backup.
I lost everything.
Motorola Q, you really let me down.
You suck.
Thanks to all of you for your help here and I hope that you don't have to bury your Q.

The motorola Q is a computer running windows mobile. Why did you think it wasn't necessary to do backups? Or where you just to busy spending 100's of hours using and customizing it to bother with that nuisance task that's to much like doing work? lol
"I lost everything. Motorola Q you really let me down, you suck"... lol, you let youself down as well by not doing backups. You've been reading the forums so you know it's a quirky phone with certain hardware and software issues. And still you didn't run backups.... Further food for thought - Anyone of those cool apps you installed could have trashed you OS beyond repair. Uninstalling the app at that point isn't going to save you. You never know what's going to happen when you install new software. For all you know it could be malware that's intended to trash your phones setup.
Anyway when you don't make backups that's the risk you run. software and hardware aren't 100% reliable. that's just a fact of life. Blame Motorola for your loosing everything you had set up, but if you had run backups this would be a non-issue. You would be back up and running with a new phone with most of your custom setup reinstalled on it asap had you just done backups once in a while.

Hard reset dude, center silver button and the red power button. Hold them together until you see your carriers logo, release and hold the 2 buttons. A Black screen will show and push yes.

Motorola will re-flash your Q under warranty (only if purchased within one year) for free if you send it to them.
If it cannot be flashed they will send you a new Q.
They try to expedite the repair and perform it within 10 days of receiving the device.
Contact Motorola support.
Good luck!
