I went to sprint and had them save my contact list from my old phone and put it on my new Q9c.
When I push the "contacts" soft key it brings up my contact lits. To narrow that list I push "B" (for example) and it brings up all the "B" contacts in an alphebetical list displaying the "B" first names and then the "B" last names, like this: Becky Daniels Ben Carpenter Bill Tigert Cathy Bryant Dustin Ballew John Broussard
and so on. This works with "A" thru "G". After "G" it displays the Last names starting with whatever letter selected (for example "S") first followed by the first names,(backwards from the how A thru G display), like this: Alan Schmidt Beth Sutton Cathy Sparks Sandy Carter Sean Gilbert Steve Garber
I sync this list to my computer, deleted the list from the phone, went through each listing in Outlook and then re-synced them to the phone with the exact same result. I have tried deleting and re adding some contacts and the order is still messed up, including the new entries.
I then went and changed all the names to show last name first, first name last. Then "A" thru "G" would show the the "B" last names first followed by the "B" first names and the "S" would show the "S" first names followed by the "S" last names...so "A" thru "G" are still opposite from "H" thru "Z".
Does anyone have any ideas? This is driving me nuts.
By default it is supposed to display the names Last, First. It sounds to me like your Outlook on your PC has some of them backward. I would delete all of the contacts from the Q and straighten up Outlook.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have already done that. I went thru each contact in Outlook..actually I have done it twice. It doesn't matter which way I arrange them in out look (LN,FN or FN,LN) it shows A-G one way and H-Z another way, as I tried to show in my example above. It isn't that it shows some contacts LN first or LN last, they all display the same way, it is the order they are arrranged in the search results.

Reason: typo's and further info
Sounds to me like it could be a possible bug in the software. Can anyone else with a Q9c duplicate this behavior? If so, might want to bring it to the attention of Motorola and/or Microsoft.
I have a q9c and it lists the contacts just fine. It isn't uncommon for strange things to happen when carrying over contact lists from one manufacturer to another. Might want to try hard resetting the phone and transmitting the contacts through bluetooth without the use of 3rd party software.
Also, when I transferred my contacts from my treo 650 to the q9c a few of the numbers were rewritten as pager numbers when they were initially mobile nos. So I easily fixed them in outlook. And if you catagorize your contacts I would unformat them all before transfering and then catagorize (personal, business, ect...) using outlook. The less formatting and more basic your contact list is the better luck you'll have. Unless of course its a software bug in your phone as the previous poster mentioned.
From my experience when transfering contacts through bluetooth, the names are formatted differently. Try to go to 'edit' on the contacts having a problem, and hit 'done'. This should re-format the contact for the phone.
