When I got my first Moto Q about 7 months ago, there was a registry edit that allowed you to get rid of the Windows startup sound. I believe you could enter a "none" or other wording rather than having to add your own ".wav" file. Since it worked fine, I didn't keep a record of what it was. Is anyone aware of this?

off the top of my head it is something like HKey local user/control panels/sounds/systemstart and the sound key.. you have to change it to *none*

Great. Thanks. Works as the following if others want to use it.

To turn off Windows startup sound ...

HKey/Current_User/ControlPanel/Sounds/SystemStart. Then "values" (bottom left), "sound" then "Value data:". Replace "piano.wav" with *none*.

I found another Registry Hack tool

I tried many of these programs like Resco and Power Tools for Windows Mobile Smartphone and I couldnt get to the registry to hack and make some of the simple upgrades.

I searched on google about an article and came upon the Mobile Registry Editor. It lets you go directly to your Q after you connect it to your computer via USB.

I did my hacks, and BOOM! I changed the cache to speed up my Q, changed the shutdown and startup screens and changed the Start Menus to List form.

get it here.

Mobile Registry Editor - Download

Good Luck.

Great site btw.

okay do this. go to this site and download this cab file

sems.org | Howto: Application Unlock Motorola Q for Telus

install that to your Q (copy and save it to a location in your Q with the ActiveSync Explorer) and navigate to the location that you put it into. Now run the cab file and it should do the security policy mod.

now try running the program and see if you can edit the registry.

do not uncompress the CAB file. just put the CAB file as is into the Q, then navigate to it and install it by clicking the center of the DPad control.

cab files are only meant to be installed or opened with the Q.
