Hi there, new to the forums - great post, and most of the info I needed.
I used audacity and the LAME mp3 export dll(LAME being a product name, it works, it's not actually lame at all ) to create a nice 96k ringtone(go into audacity's preferences and change the mp3 export to 96k to save a LOT of space).
Saving ringtones to My Windows Mobile-Based Device\Application Data\Sounds works for changing the ringtone for everyone.
HOWEVER, if you want custom ringtones for your various contacts, mine would only work once I started saving ringtones to the root of my storage card.
Now I know when my fiancee is calling when I hear Bloodhound Gang's "The Bad Touch", and when my band's guitarist calls I hear "Dragula" by Rob Zombie.

Hey guys I was just wondering, is it possible to add vibration to my custom ring tone? I have my Q set to a custom mp3 ring tone but I would really like vibration.
I have loaded a mp3, wma and wav file from a sd card to the sounds file. They play fine on windows media but when I try to play them as a ringtone under the contact that I want it on I get the message of "unsuppoted .wav format and can not be played." I have even tried changing the file I am trying to load from stero to mono, the bit rate etc. but nothing is working. Suggestions?
I have windows vista, and it won't allow me to download activesync. I downloaded Windows Moblie Device Center, but is there a way to put ringtones on through this program? Also, what about games?
I followed your instructions, added ringtones in mp3 format to my storage card, then to the Application Data/Sounds folder, and they appear in the list as they should. Problem is, I can't hear them at all. When I switch over to a Moto Q ringtone in the list, those play just fine. I tried playing the custom ringtone file on Windows Media Player, on my smartphone and on my PC, and it plays just fine. Any suggestions? Had a buddy call me, just to make sure they weren't playing. Ringtone doesn't play, but the Moto Q ringtones work just fine. Being pretty tech friendly myself, I tried so many different things.
P.S. Phone software is updated, just got this phone TODAY. Ringtone file is under 200kb (chorus from a favorite song). Tried converting it to WMA, same results. When I converted to WAV, it wouldn't even be listed in the list of ringtones :- /. And I'm using WavePad as my mp3 editing tool, and Switch Sound File Converter as my converting tool.
