Ahh yes, a Motorola Q webmaster's trade secret... Although it's not the greatest (or easiest) way to get screenshots from your Motorola Q, it works just fine until someone makes a program decent to use. Here is how I get screenshots from my Motorola Q:
Download Windows Mobile Developer PowerToys here (it's the second of the two to download on that page).
The process works in two parts. First the host (your desktop PC) and the client (your Motorola Q).
Make sure you install the host program on your desktop PC and run it first (you might get a CPU error but thats okay). Also, be sure that you have Microsoft ActiveSync up and ready to go.
Click on Start and then run, then type this in: C:\Program Files\Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys\ActiveSync_Remote_Display\devices\smartphone\ wce400
After you connect your Motorola Q to your desktop, hit explore and copy the armv4 folder to your Motorola Q (i.e. Program Files).
Run CERDisp2.exe from your Motorola Q in File Manager.
You'll see an "About CERDisp" dialog box with no buttons (since they are cut off but it's okay). Just press the center nav key to continue.
Now you should see an icon in the upper right and corner indicating that the remote control client is active.
Select the Connect button and then select the OK button to connect to the host.
Voila, you should now see your Motorola Q's screen on your PC.
At this point all you need to do is use the ALT-Print Screen keys while the Remote Control Host window is active. That will capture the screen to the clipboard.
Fire up your favorite graphics editor and paste and crop the image to size (320x240)
And there you have it, a Motorola Q screenshot!
Let me know if you have any questions, and I hope this helps!
Hi,
I could use a little help, I am having some trouble at the last steps of the installation
Everything works just fine until I hit Connect. There is a field Hostname.. by default there is written "PPP_Peer". I suppose I have to write my computer's host name, which I could find by typing ipconfig/all in Start-Run-cmd.
The thing is that I can not delete "PPP_PEER", the "backspace" key does absolutley nothing.
If I let "PPP_PEER". the connection is not working.
The device is connected to my PC via USB. The ActiveSync is working and the status is 'Connected/Synchronized'.
What am I doing wrong?
just get mymobiler (FREE) and install it to your PC.. simple and takes alot less time
Once installed and connected...click on edit
save screen to file
save as .jpg (drop down) then save it to where you want it. I save mine to my desktop.
The best part about this program is that you can use your keyboard and mouse to enter data and browse your Q!
