Lately I've been having trouble browsing the internet on my Q. I can browse a few pages then I start having connection errors or DNS errors. If I turn the phone off in Wireless Manager then turn it back on I can usually begin browsing again. Are any other Sprint users having this problem?
yes. I thought it was just me. I to have that issue. I either update my service profile, or I disconnect the battery all together to try to get online. I will have multiple bars, but after taking forever to connect, it says I have no service. Actually, I am on my phone doing this. I just hope it gets through. now that it established that we are not alone, any ideas? causes? and what can we do about it?
Please call Sprint and have them start a trouble ticket. I was having these problems as well last week (and a bunch of us had the same issue last October). I called them, they entered a trouble ticket (you should mention DNS for sure when you call them). I am located 40 miles west of Chicago. I went out of town up to Wisconsin over the weekend and it was better up there, so I thought it had been fixed, but it's not as good now that I'm back home. My guess is that they are having some general DNS or tower problems. The more calls they get, the better chance we'll have that it will get fixed.
ok. what dns should i give them when i call? i tried to go to the sprint store and have it looked at, but the store in my town doesn't have a tech, so they couldn't tell me if it was my phone. and i really hate calling customer cause none of those people speak english very well, so it is always a pain to talk to them. where can i get the DNS? I agree with you, if we all call, they will have no choice but to look into it. let me know
In order to find your DNS addresses, you will need a registry editor. I use the PHM Registry editor. If you're not familiar with registry editors, there is a lot of info on them in this forum. You must be careful with them.
Once you have the editor installed, open the program and navigate as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, COMM, CELLULAR LINE, PArms, TCPIP, (then press the values key) select DNS. You will see two addresses in the box. For example, mine are 68.28.146.92 and 68.28.154.92
By the way, don't even bother trying to change them to something else because the change will not hold. They will just go back to what they were before.
Also, there is a possibility that this is actually not a DNS problem but a tower issue in your area, so you may not want to actually insist that it is DNS.
i am not by any means a noob when it comes to the registery on a PC, but this is my first smartphone, so i don't think i want to mess with the registery for the Q. Honestly though, if a fellow texan is having an issue like mine, then i think it is on Sprints' end, not the DNS.
Have you guys had any luck getting your issue resolved?
Just for the heck of it, I went on my PC and attempted to ping the DNS servers which are in my phone. No response from either of them. I have emailed tech support and they have passed this on to advanced tech support . I'll let you know what happens.
