I've just purchased a new MotoQ from Sprint, and can't seem to sucessfully use Google Maps for GPS tracking.
When I'm in Google Maps application, and "track GPS", I get an error that says:
Cannot connect to GPS hardware:
Your GPS receiver does not appear to be responding. Make sure you have a GPS receiver, that is turned on and correctly configured to work with Google Maps for mobile.............
Has anyone else experienced this error? I've also tried to do it while outside in clear view, but no luck.
Are there any other handy GPS programs out there for the MotoQ?
Ahhhh... that's most likely my problem. Forgive me for my stupid question, but I was under the impression that the phone would act as a gps receiver, and there was nothing else to purchase. So, bottom line is, do you need a gps receiver in addtion to the moto
Yeppers you need a Bluetooth GPS receiver. The MotoQ does have a built-in GPS receiver according to the specs, but as of yet no one has figured out a way to hack the Q so that you can actually use it for applications. Currently the only use for it is for emergency services to locate you when you dial 911. Hopefully this will change but until someone figures out a way to hack the Q's GPS, you must purchase a separate receiver. The only phones I am aware of that actually allow you to use the built-in GPS are HP's iPaq hw6500 and hw6900 series, which are GSM models.
Can anyone reccomend a Bluetooth GPS receiver that will work with the Q?
I don't have one to recommend, but I can recommend that you avoid the Holux GPSlim 236. I bought one off eBay and it worked perfectly... for a month. Now it's dead. Checked around online and lots of people having the same problems with it.
