I'll describe what I'm trying to do and then explain what I've done and maybe someone can give me some insight to what I'm doing wrong or if it's even possible with what I'm attempting to do:
I just bought my Q a few days ago, it has WM 5.0. I'm trying to connect my Q to my Outlook program at work. Now, my IT Dept. only supports Blackberry's (which I don't want), so one of my IT guys told me that if I can connect to the Blackberry network, then I can access my e-mail.
So after some research, I cam upon Blackberry Connect. I first originally dl'ed it from this site:
One of which dl'ed on my computer, another which I installed on my phone. Now here's where I ran into problems. I tried following the directions but I kept on coming accross the fact that I didn't have a Blackberry account and I couldn't get past the "Setup the Blackberry Connect Program" step 4 box on the direction page:
Now, seeing that this is a Moto Q and that this Blackberry service is available for DL, am I doing something wrong or do I have to buy a service to connect to my outlook program at work?
Although I have not done it with any phone, because Verizon simply will not allow it. Sprint, from what I have heard does (threads at treocentral.com for Blackberry Connect).
What you need to do is call Sprint to enable your device to connect to the blackberry network. They call it a SOC (don't know what that means).
But if you want to learn about it, go to treocentral and read the threads for Blackberry Connect for the Treo 650. What you need to do is pay attention to what you have to ask Sprint to enable.
I would skip the IT guys and ask to talk to the Exchange administrator. Ask him if remote activesync is enabled on the server, and if the server can be reached from the internet. If he says yes to both questions, there is no need to go the Blackberry route.
