[quote=Syndil;6711]If you are having trouble sending email from your Sprint Q, this is for you.
Thanks. I have been struggling for days to send email through my roadrunner ISP and this really helped. I made the mistake of changing my Vision password only and not also PCS mail password as instructed. It worked well for me when I set both (Vision & PCS Mail) passwords at the same time - using the same password.

Reason: incorrect info
I have tried to follow the instructions given. I am so glad to find them because I have spent 4 hours with Sprint...they know nothing about why I can't send bellsouth emails, I have spent 4 hours with Bellsouth and they have no idea why, so its nice to hear someone talk about how to work it out. I followed the steps and my only changed my outgoing. All emails I now send are invalid recipients. THey never went out at all before, so now at least something in happening, but all recipients (email addresses are correct) are coming out invalid. Any ideas?

The long-winded technical explanation (skip to the instructions below if you don't care): When you set up a POP3 email account on the Q, one of the things you are asked for is an outgoing mail server. If you are using an email address that was provided to you by your ISP, you might find that the outgoing mail server for your particular ISP does not work on the Q.
Often times ISPs will restrict access to the outgoing mail server by allowing access only to devices with an IP address assigned by that particular ISP. So if were you try to send mail through the ISP's outgoing mail server using a device that is not on the ISP's network--your Q, for example--it will fail.
The workaround is to use Sprint's outgoing mail server for sending mail.
Instructions:
Before this will work, there are some steps that need to be performed from your PC.
On your PC
1) Go to the Sprint website and log in to your account using the Sign In window at the left. If you have not logged into your account online before, you will first need to register using the link provided.
2) On the account overview screen that has just appeared, find the section labeled My Online Tools on the right hand side of the window and click Sprint PCS Mail.
3) On the left hand side of the new window, find and click Settings and Preferences.
4) Along the top of this screen, find and click Setup.
5) Change your password, and remember it or write it down.
6) On the left hand side of the screen, find and click My Personal Information near the bottom.
7) Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the Passwords section and click the Modify link for your Power Vision Username.
8) DO NOT actually change your Power Vision Username. If you do so, it will take several hours to propagate through Sprint's system. Just make a note of what it is (write it down), then click Cancel at the bottom.
On to the Q. If you are setting up a brand new POP3 account, the following instructions will be clear when you get to the outgoing mail server section. If you have already set up a POP3 account on the Q and need to change the outgoing mail server, open that account on your Q and click Menu -> Options -> Account Options, and click on the account you want to modify. Click Next three times to get to where the outgoing mail server settings are.
On the Q
1) For the Outgoing Server, enter smtp.sprintpcs.com
2) Check the box labeled Outgoing server requires authentication.
3) Click the link for Outgoing Server Settings.
4) Check the box labeled Use different user name for outgoing server.
5) For User name enter the Power Vision Username you found in step 8 on your PC. Do not enter the @sprintpcs.com part, just the username.
6) For Password enter the Sprint PCS Mail password that you created in step 5 on your PC.
7) Leave Domain blank, put a check in Save password, and click Done. Continue through the rest of the email setup and you are finished.
I noticed I did not check the "requires authentication" box, so now it's working! Thanks. I have another question. What would be the benefit in business for Sprint employees and Bellsouth employees to not have this information? What is the point of advertising the Q that you can "SEND EMAIL" if they don't reallly want you to be able to? Is there a reason I dont understand as to why I had to spend 8 hours of my time and over 3 months of frustration creating and deleting accounts trying to figure out how to make this work?
THANKS AGAIN!

I just set my charter.net mail account up in this fashion.... I sent test emails to my other accounts, and it shows the mail as coming from my charter account. None of this "On behalf of" garbage.... Very nice!
I had a similar problem trying to setup Mediacom email on a Sprint Moto Q. After much digging, I finally discovered that one solution you can try is to put in the port number that your email service uses. In my situation, I was able to receive email, but not send.
Rather than use Sprint as my outgoing server, my solution was to add the port number for the outgoing server. I found the outgoing server port number on my ISP's web site.
Since the Q doesn't have an input port setting, I found online that this is the way to enter the outgoing server information and specify the port number: mail.mchsi.com:465
Your solution to adding the port number to the end of your ISP's SMTP settings should be the better solution. When I was with Nextel using my i930 I had to use the Nextel's SMTP settings but now that I have switched over to the Moto Q/Sprint the Sprint SMTP settings won't allow me to send email. So myispsmtpsettings:#### was the solution. Thanks
