If you are having trouble sending email from your Sprint Q, this is for you.
The long-winded technical explanation (skip to the instructions below if you don't care): When you set up a POP3 email account on the Q, one of the things you are asked for is an outgoing mail server. If you are using an email address that was provided to you by your ISP, you might find that the outgoing mail server for your particular ISP does not work on the Q.
Often times ISPs will restrict access to the outgoing mail server by allowing access only to devices with an IP address assigned by that particular ISP. So if were you try to send mail through the ISP's outgoing mail server using a device that is not on the ISP's network--your Q, for example--it will fail.
The workaround is to use Sprint's outgoing mail server for sending mail.
Instructions:
Before this will work, there are some steps that need to be performed from your PC.
On your PC
1) Go to the Sprint website and log in to your account using the Sign In window at the left. If you have not logged into your account online before, you will first need to register using the link provided.
2) On the account overview screen that has just appeared, find the section labeled My Online Tools on the right hand side of the window and click Sprint PCS Mail.
3) On the left hand side of the new window, find and click Settings and Preferences.
4) Along the top of this screen, find and click Setup.
5) Change your password, and remember it or write it down.
6) On the left hand side of the screen, find and click My Personal Information near the bottom.
7) Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the Passwords section and click the Modify link for your Power Vision Username.
8) DO NOT actually change your Power Vision Username. If you do so, it will take several hours to propagate through Sprint's system. Just make a note of what it is (write it down), then click Cancel at the bottom.
On to the Q. If you are setting up a brand new POP3 account, the following instructions will be clear when you get to the outgoing mail server section. If you have already set up a POP3 account on the Q and need to change the outgoing mail server, open that account on your Q and click Menu -> Options -> Account Options, and click on the account you want to modify. Click Next three times to get to where the outgoing mail server settings are.
On the Q
1) For the Outgoing Server, enter smtp.sprintpcs.com
2) Check the box labeled Outgoing server requires authentication.
3) Click the link for Outgoing Server Settings.
4) Check the box labeled Use different user name for outgoing server.
5) For User name enter the Power Vision Username you found in step 8 on your PC. Do not enter the @sprintpcs.com part, just the username.
6) For Password enter the Sprint PCS Mail password that you created in step 5 on your PC.
7) Leave Domain blank, put a check in Save password, and click Done. Continue through the rest of the email setup and you are finished.
I have been in contact with Sprint Customer Solutions with no work around for that particular issue. Kinda sucks when a customer of mine sees that in the "From" field but no way around it thus far...
Well I followed all the steps above and it comes up for me to put in my yahoo email password when I go to send/recieve on my Q. then in pops up that an error occured and that it could not connect with the incoming mail server????? Was i supposed to change the incoming server as well? Please help!
No, this only affects the outgoing mail server. It sounds like you are having trouble with the incoming mail server. Sounds like something is up with your Yahoo Plus account.
A guy at my work had a problem where his sbcglobal account would not accept his password. He got with Verizon support and they determined that what was happening was his phone was not sending the proper command to complete the transaction. They determined that it was a problem with his phone and replaced it. Since then he has been able to connect just fine with his new phone. Make any sense?

I am having the same problem when trying to send thru my yahoo account. Any solutions?
You guys are obviously having problems with the incoming server, not the outgoing server. The above instructions have nothing to do with the incoming server. If you are having trouble with your Yahoo Plus account and incoming mail, then check out the Yahoo page for setting up email: POP Yahoo! Mail Plus with Another Email Client - Yahoo! Mail
Do you have something like that for gmail? My gmail worked once and now when I go to send/recieve it will say it's downloading my messages but when it's done it just logs off and doesn't show any of the messages on my screen.
