Battery life expectancy?

Hi all, new Q owner as of a few weeks ago.

I'm loving the phone in general, but there's one thing that I don't like about it and that is the extreme short battery life. Generally if I charge it all night, it will only last until maybe 2pm with my normal voice/data usage. If I don't use it at all, the phone will start beeping battery low by 4pm or so.

I bought this phone used on Craigslist, so I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is just normal or if the battery I got with this used phone is just worn out.

If this is normal, does anybody have any recommendations for replacement extended batteries? I want to get as much battery life as possible, and I've seen a few that advertise double the battery life but they aren't official Motorola batteries or whatever. Should I be leery of these claims?

Thanks for your time.

I get about a day out of mine with normal use. I keep a USB cable at work with me and I also plug into my car charger when I'm in the car.

Search the forums for tips on getting more out of your battery. Make sure since you bought your Q used that you have the latest firmware. Check Motorola's website. Updates are carrier specific.

Stay away from non-Motorola batteries.

Yah, if I keep mine plugged in to USB while I'm sitting at my desk it can work all day as well, but I'm usually in and out of a cleanroom environment so my phone spends most of it's time on my hip. Still, it sounds like I should be getting more than 6-7 hours per battery charge, so I suppose I'll just try buying another one. I'll look for a Motorola battery specifically. Thanks!

Make sure your bluetooth (wireless manager) and Infrared (Settings-connections-beam(make sure box is unchecked)) connections are disabled. That should help.

Battery Life

My recommendation is that you download to your phone the most recent software upgrade posted on the official Motorola website. If you are still having problems with battery life i would take a look at purchasing the extended battery. It can work up too 72 hours. You shouldn't have to charge your battery that quickly after an overnight charge.

I sync with an Exchange Server 24/7 and I tend to move in and out of coverage a lot at work. I expect my battery to last about 12 - 14 hours.

Definately go and get the software update.

Either way, if the battery is only lasting till 4PM after a full night's charge, without even using the Q, the battery needs to be replaced.

I already did the software update on the first night I got the phone, so I'm current on that. Disabling Bluetooth stabilized it quite a bit, but I'm still looking at 6-7 hours per charge if I don't talk on it at all. I'll grab a replacement battery and see if that helps. Thanks for the advice all!

Candlelight really works!!!

I can only say that this saves battery life greatly! I use my Q heavily during the day and I have enough power to make it until the next morning. You need to try it...download it from here:
