Today while outside the Sprint network, I noticed a symbol similar to the red anti symbol in the area I usually see the signal strength. I was still able to place a call. I think the symbol indicates that I am off a digital signal and using an analog system. Any one have an idea what this symbol indicates? Has any one installed an antenna booster on the Moto Q? If so, have you noticed an increase in signal strength?
Thanks for the input. This forum is a great source of info.
That symbol is supposed to mean that you have no signal at all, but I have found that the Q sometimes gets "stuck" on that symbol and after restarting I will have the bars again.
Cellphone signal booster stickers do not work and are purely decorative, at best.
There are large external antennas you can buy that actually attach themselves to the internal antenna of the cellphone via a cable that attaches to a special port on the phone. Alternatively you can buy a cellphone signal repeater to set up in an area that you consistently get a bad signal in. However either solution is neither cheap or portable.
mtg, consider the source--that page exists only for the links to buy said boosters at the bottom of the page. According to the laws of physics there is no way that sticker has any positive effect on a cell signal. It does not make contact with the antenna element and it does not funnel the signal towards the element (like a dish). It's an outright scam.
