I just bought the i.trekM6 BT GPS receiver to work with my MotoQSprint. Although I can get them to pair, I cant get them to connect. Does anyone know of a solution. I would really really really appreciate it!!!!!
When you say you can't get them to "connect", are you trying to use map/navigation software and the software won't track GPS? If your Q and M6 are paired - you'll need nav software in order to use it.
I'm using Route 66 that has the voice and animated guided nav, prior though I used Map 4 PDA with the M6. It's a free d/l and works quite well - tracks your location/driving directions in real time. You can d/l it here:
Once your M6 is paired with your Q, start Map 4 PDA, and in the menu, hit the "Start GPS". Give it about a minute and it will let you know your connected. Next click on Maps from the menu - when I used that program, I found Microsoft Live to work the best out of the options.
You can also use Google Maps for mobile. Works with the M6 also, but it was surprisingly slow with limited options.
Hope that helps. The little green light on the M6 will start to flicker if it is receiving GPS signal.
When I turn on the GPS, the green light does start to flicker (which means it has a GPS signal), however, the blue light is constantly on, which I guess means it is searching for a pair.
Now on the Q, I can see the GPS receiver (and I can pair them). However, the blue light is constantly showing (not flickering) on the M6, which I guess means the two are not connected.
I thought maybe once I started a map software on the Q, the Q and the M6 would talk to each other.
I have google maps loaded on the Q, and I tried using the Track Location option in the googleMap menu. However, it fails saying that I dont have a GPS receiver, which makes sense to me, because the Q and the M6 dont seem to be talking to each other (although I can see the M6 on the Q).
From your thread below, I understand that I need (necessary) to have Map4PDA loaded on my Q to be able to connect to GPS, following which I can use whatever map software I want. I think I may be interpreting that incorrectly.
If I just want to use GoogleMaps for now (without downloading any other Map Software), is that possible?
BTW...one main reason I got the M6 was because I saw your review on newegg, saying that the M6 works flawlessly with the Q.
For some reason, Google maps was a real pain to get working (GPS tracking) on my Q. I ran into the exact same problem you're experiencing - I saw the green light flicker so I know I was receiving something - but google would always say "No Bluetooth GPS device detected".
Since your green light is flickering, and you can see you're paired via BT with the M6 - you're good to go, it's working. It's just the software (google maps) giving you problems.
I would really recommend downloading and installing Maps 4 PDA via the link in my previous post. It works perfect with the M6 & Q. It's a stand alone program and you don't need to d/l additional maps etc., for it to run. Once you install Maps 4 PDA, just "start GPS" from the menu, and once enabled - the maps menu will let you choose a map program to use (one of which is Google maps). I did find Microsoft Live to work the best from the menu options given for map and directions tracking.
one last thing - I was curious so I grabbed the M6 from my car and turned it on along with Google Maps. The first try to "Track Location" - told me there was no GPS BT connection. I clicked Retry and it connected.
As I mention - google maps is quirky for some reason, maybe just with the Q. Try "retrying" a few times and should connect for you.
Thank you for all your help. Map4pda did solve my problem, and I could use microsoft live as my map. Interestingly, even thru map4pda, i couldnt get google maps to work.
However, I wa a bit dissapointed with Microsoft live becasue it does not provide any "dot" on the map to show your position, instead, it centers the map. Worse, it does give any warning of the next coming turn etc., so I dont think I would be using that software much.
I tried using Live Search, and that is a much better software. It provides a small "triangle" to show position, as well as gives a heads up on the upcoming turn.
One major problem with Live Search (and I guess with any online map program) is that if you are on the highway and going even 55+, it wont be able to update the maps because by the time it downloads where you are, you are already past that.
So now im thinking of getting map software which I can load onto a card, but i dont want to spend another $100 on that. Do you know of any map company which provides map software (even without voice navigation) that can be downloaded to a memory card?
I've given up on google maps and tried the map4pda program, but get an error message that no bluetooth serial ports can be found for my device (holux gps slip 240)/.
Have you paired your holux with your Q first? Start>Bluetooth>Settings>Paired Devices>Add
If you have already and are still getting the error message - under "Serial Ports" in the bluetooth settings options, checkmark "Select new device for the next.....connection"
Try connecting to Maps4pda again.
