I know some Moto Q users have had problems with the unit not charging when plugged in. I heard that if you disable the built in alarm clock that this will fix the issue... Any truth to this?
I had also read that you should plug the phone in, then connect the charger to the wall...
This only happens to me once in a blue moon. If it cannot be remedied by unplugging and replugging then it is usually fixed by cycling the power on the Q.
More often than not I use the Motorola USB cradle attached to my PC at home to charge. I also use a car charger when on the road. Sometimes, though seldom, I will use the wall charger.
See, other than finding out that it hasn't gained any battery power, it's difficult to tell when the issue is occuring... Anything in particular i can look for before going to bed and using the wall charger -- that is -- i don't want to have to sit there for 10 minutes to see power level movement before I know if i need to power cycle or not...lol
The main thing to look for is the battery status icon in the iconbar. As I'm sure you already know when you plug in the charger (or USB cable) the icon should change from a battery to a plug. If it does not then it's not charging.
If you charge overnight and the icon doesn't show four bars then cycle the power. See if it shows four bars after that. If it does not then it could be one of two things. The battery may not be holding the charge and should be replaced or you need to take your phone to Sprint and complain that the phone is not charging. I had a user at work with a Verizon Q that would not charge. First Verizon gave him a new battery. When that did not work they gave him a new phone.
Ok -- see, the charge icon did change. However, the battery meter wouldn't move. Next time, I will try a power cycle to see if that fixes it. WOuld I power cycle as soon as I plug it in to set it on the correct charging path... -- or AFTER i think it charged to see if it did?
Also, I notice that even when the battery is full, after a power cycle, i get the "Battery!" warning symbol -- but it only flashes for a second, then goes to full status...
If the battery icon doesn't change to a plug after you plug it in then cycle the power before you charge. It it does change then go ahead and charge without cycling the power.
If after a full charge the battery icon doesn't show four bars then cycle the power and see the icon changes. It is normal for the warning icon to show until after the Q is fully booted.
I know this might be a dead thread, but I'm experiencing this as well. Well not so much me as my wife. Her Q doesn't charge some nights and is dead in the morning even when being plugged in for 9 hours on the wall charger. Hers shows dead when she unplugs it in the morning, I then took the battery from my Q which did charge and put it in hers and vice versa. Hers said charged then with my battery and so did mine with hers. I then plugged mine back in and it immediately said charge complete. Any reason to this? Apparently it charged the battery but didn't recognize it until either battery switch or the reboot. Mine occasionally does this as well. What's up with that? Anyone know what causes it or a fix?
