a friend of mine was asking me about my q today. he said he was looking at the q9c, but that he was also interested in the bb pearl 8130. i tolled him i would get back to him. so what do you guys think???
I don't know much about Blackberries. Are they as customizable as a Windows Mobile phone? Can they run 3rd party apps like Windows Mobile can? Does your friend care?

I had a Blackberry 8830 Worldphone from Sprint for two weeks, before I got the Q9c...I would still have the BB IF it had a camera, but the 8830 is more of a corporate phone, so it didn't. I truly enjoyed that phone. It is very customizable, fast, easy to use, eye catching, and it honestly never crashed during those two weeks....but there are some downsides...
you have to get the Blackberry connect plan in order to use some of its features, such as data, push e-mail.... (this holds true for all blackberries, not just the pearl or my 8830). I loved the rollerball, prefered it over the D-pad, but that's just a preference. Make sure your friend knows that the Pearl does NOT have a full Qwerty Keyboard, also, depending on which OS the Pearl will have, you may or may NOT be able to install programs on the SD card, which means the phone's internal storage will fill up FAST. I do know that this is something that is being fixed in the new OS release, which is supposed to be out now, and should be in all of the new BB's...I just bought my BB a few weeks too early, I guess.
my homeboy said that he would like to add a couple of things here and there but nothing major to it. hes not to picky about it. tdetroit, thanx for the info. i'll let him know. i really dont know much about the bb myself, i did have an old one form nextel but i know it has come a long way from back then. i wanted to get some feed back from you guys to see what you thought of it...
Also, if he works in a corporate setting, I would recommend the Q over the Pearl, simply because it looks more professional.....(q vs BB 8830 Worldphone...it's a draw as far as professional looks go)
With the Q I get push email for free through exchange server 2007. Sprint wanted to charge me $30 a month for blackberry data service. That made the decision easy.
tdetroit, my boy is your average joe shmo him as a corp. will see lol. yeah man, i remember when i got my bb with nextel the plan started off at $15, but it didnt do everyhing that i wanted. so i had to wind up paying those $30 a month myself. there still doing that, wow...
